Rebirth was written, with much encouragement from my applied lesson teacher Marta Waterman, as a follow-up to Ennui. It is the song that I am most proud of and presents one of my favourite philosophical and scientific ideas: that we are all made of elements, the same elements that are found in and created by stars and everything around us.
lyrics
You live your life and soon you die,
you return to your supply on high.
The cloud of your being becomes fuel
for the stars joule by joule.
As the phoenix burns and rises,
Flowers and trees find their demises.
New plants and islands may then emerge
In bolder and new more powerful surge.
I make a promise to the universe:
My friends, myself, I will immerse,
To live and love through the good and bad,
Even with no meaning to be had.
As the phoenix burns and rises,
Flowers and trees find their demises.
New plants and islands may then emerge
In bolder and new more powerful surge.
And for all, for all, who ask
Just know: this, too, shall pass.
As the phoenix burns and rises,
Flowers and trees find their demises.
New plants and islands may then emerge
In bolder and new more powerful surge.
